Passion for potatoes

Golden potatoes

To happen upon a nugget of gold it is like finding out you have the winning numbers to the lottery, a promise of happier tomorrows.

The nugget falls from the sky and can be sought but only found by chance (or almost), it cannot be invented,  it is the opportunity waiting to be seized.

I was convinced that by force of digging in the gold mine that was Anselm Kiefer’s studio, I would strike gold in his workshop!

By covering them with gold sheets, their vulgar and withered appearance changed to something beautiful. They started to shine like nuggets of gold. Thus they became golden potatoes.

Potato – which evokes for me the life of an agricultural worker, working punishingly long hours in the fields, the golden potatoes for me are a sort of palatable hope, of future fortune.

Thus the potato became my totem, a sort of pretext to diverse experiments, a way to analyze a certain expectation of success.

Like a coal miner or a mindless career man, I exploited the fault, digging day after day.
